Possibly the highlight of Northern networking events this summer?

Last week, after a year-long hiatus, SocialNorth marked its triumphant return. Attendees experienced an event that set a new standard for networking, combining stunning weather, breathtaking views, delightful refreshments, and, most importantly, exceptional company.

Marking its return, SocialNorth has forged a new partnership with CSP Commerce, a Wunderman Thompson Commerce agency. Joining the ecommerce agency at its new residence, SocialNorth is planning to take full advantage of the recently opened WPP Manchester Campus, which includes its rooftop terrace and auditorium.

The excitement surrounding “Summer Vibes” reached a fever pitch as over 150 professionals made their way to the event. The sheer demand was so overwhelming that ticket sales had to be halted to avoid exceeding the event’s maximum capacity. The main concern was if there would be enough food to cater to the enthusiastic crowd which was double that then expected. One thing was abundantly clear – people were hungry to network with the SocialNorth community, and we were happy to oblige!

The pivotal role of event sponsor was graciously undertaken by Chatloop, the pioneering force behind the world’s first social-browsing social experience. Their contribution infused the event with a special touch, as drinks flowed and canapes were supplied for the evening. The meticulous attention to detail was evident throughout the evening. From the moment attendees arrived on Quay Street, even from over 200 yards away, the event’s grandeur was unmistakable, thanks to the impressive welcoming signage. To ensure that every guest felt personally welcomed, James Carr of CSP Commerce greeted each individual at the entrance. Further up the line, Lee Benecke, the co-founder of SocialNorth, gave a big Yorkshire welcome and directed guests towards the heart of the event, where they were finally met by Justin Clark, co-founder of SocialNorth on the roof terrace.

With the music going, the drink flowing and the sun setting, it was time for a short round of welcome speeches. Opening up Justin and Lee, recapped their impressive journey and the mission of SocialNorth, before handing over to Scott Armstrong of Wunderman Thompson and Andy Barlow of Chatloop, before guests were able to continue enjoying their evening of informal networking.

Besides the networking and connections, the one stand out take away from ‘Summer Vibes’  event was the big announcement of SocialNorth’s new vertical events. Kicking off with the ‘Ecommerce Series’ and in continued partnership with CSP Commerce. SocialNorth will be returning for its first event on the 28th of September 2023. Stay tuned for the ticket release.

Cloud Seller Pro, a Manchester Ecommerce Agency, announces its rebrand to CSP Commerce.

Lancaster and Manchester based Ecommerce Agency, Cloud Seller Pro, is pleased to announce its exciting rebranding to CSP Commerce. Following its acquisition by WPP in 2021, CSP Commerce has undergone a transformative process, widening its capabilities and services to better support its clients.

The rebranding journey was carefully facilitated and designed by the renowned Manchester creative agency, Cheetham Bell. Through this process, CSP Commerce has distilled its essence and embraced a powerful vision: “We’ll win together.” This vision underpins the agency’s commitment to empowering clients by becoming an extension of their teams and delivering end-to-end ecommerce solutions that lead to substantial growth and success.

At the heart of CSP Commerce lies a passionate, dedicated, and somewhat quirky team, driven by a shared sense of entrepreneurialism and tenacity. CSP Commerce places significant emphasis on shared success to ensure clients receive nothing but the best strategic, technological, and creative solutions. The work ethos revolves around creativity, collaboration, and a profound sense of care for its clients, projects and colleagues.

With access to the vast resources of WPP’s ecommerce agency and consultancy division, Wunderman Thompson Commerce and Technology, CSP Commerce has broadened its services and the maturity of its operations.

Commercial Director at CSP Commerce, Scott Armstrong, who now has a dual role as Head of Growth (eRetail) at Wunderman Thompson Commerce and Technology, commented:

“From our humble beginnings in Lancaster to expanding our physical presence in Manchester, our mission has always remained the same: from brand through to demand we help our clients to sell more products, to more people, in more places.

Wunderman Thompson Commerce and Technology encompasses some of the world’s most innovative and strategic ecommerce agencies, and we are immensely proud to find ourselves among them. The rebrand marks a new milestone in our journey whilst acting as a welcomed reminder of the attributes that enabled us to grow – we offer a unique shared performance model and have a real sense of care and dedication as an agency. As CSP Commerce, and as part of WTC, we are now positioned to support businesses even further in their growth journey and support those scaling nationally to globally.”

The rebranding signifies not only a new name but a new chapter in CSP Commerce’s journey. The agency’s focus on growth will continue to drive its commitment to helping clients succeed in ecommerce. As CSP Commerce forges ahead, it is determined to make a positive impact on ecommerce businesses and elevate their ability to succeed in a dynamic digital landscape.

Manchester is a thriving creative hub and it has always been our intention to invest in a campus that would bring our agencies together in the city. This move further demonstrates our commitment to facilitate collaboration, fuel creativity, and give clients access to the breadth and depth of WPP talent in one location.”

Karen Blackett OBE, UK President of WPP, said:

“Manchester has always been a city brimming with growth and creativity and we wanted to be at the heart of that. The city is also home to a beautiful fruit salad of people and we need to reflect that in our organisations in order to generate growth. We are thrilled to see this vision come to life and become an integral part of the vibrant Manchester community.”

Nearly one month ago, the seven marketing and ecommerce agencies within the WPP Manchester network came together to promote mental wellness. After several weeks of planning, many positive meetings and plenty of collaboration by the mental health advocates across the agencies, we produced an agenda full of varied activities, talks and initiatives. The five days were themed to address anxiety and stress, and to showcase our commitment to employee well-being.

A Week of Varied Activities and Talks

From calming the mind with Origami workshops and engaging in embroidery sessions, to fostering relaxation with coffee breaks and collaborative jigsaw puzzles, the week provided an array of activities to alleviate stress and promote mindfulness. There were also tasty cakes baked by staff and sold to raise funds for MIND, a charity dedicated to supporting mental health.

Supportive Talks and Expert Insights

Craig Jones delivering his talk on Andy's Man Club

The event also extended its reach beyond the agencies, collaborating with charitable organizations and guest speakers to share their wisdom on managing mental health. Craig Jones, a member of Andy’s Man Club, shared insights into how the charity helps men manage personal and professional pressures by providing a safe space for men to openly discuss their struggles, and receive support through peer-led sessions. Dr. Rina Bajaj , an award-winning counselling psychologist and author, joined the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) to deliver an empowering talk, offering attendees valuable guidance in managing their mental well-being. This contribution exemplified the commitment of the agencies to providing employees with valuable resources and expert perspectives on mental health.

Active Participation and Physical Well-being

Recognising the importance of physical activity in maintaining mental health, the agencies encouraged employees to engage in various forms of exercise. Yoga sessions and Qigong practices, combining movement and breathwork, were organized to promote physical and mental balance. These activities aimed to cultivate a sense of overall well-being by integrating the mind and body.

The mental health event fostered partnerships with local businesses to diversify the activities and experiences offered. Two excursions were organized during the week. The first excursion led attendees to Barry’s Bootcamp Session, a high-intensity training session designed to invigorate the body and boost cardiovascular health. The second excursion took participants to Corner HQ, Manchester’s Boxing Boutique Gym, where an introductory boxing session was held. These activities provided employees with an opportunity to challenge themselves and engage in physical exercise different to what they would be used to.

Commenting on the week’s activities, Abhay Singh, Account Assistant at CSP Commerce, said:
“Just had an incredible week dedicated to mental health awareness! Hybrid working has reduced my in-person interactions and the activities over the past week have helped me challenge myself to be more active socially or physically. An empowering session by Andy’s Man Club, where I found support and connection with like-minded individuals. Having a safe space to be able to share your vulnerabilities with a supportive community felt like a breath of fresh air. Ended the week on a high note with a Corner HQ boxing class, releasing stress while throwing a few punches was the best I’ve felt in a while. Feeling grateful for these opportunities to explore personal mental well-being and glad to have made the most of it.”

Making Mental Health Matter

The collaboration of WPP agencies was a testament to the agencies’ collective commitment to fostering employee well-being and promoting better mental health. It was touching to see the number of activities and talks that were so positively received and engaged by people from across all of the agencies. For many of the smaller agencies it also provided the an opportunity to form new personal relationships with those beyond their own agency.
